all those wonderful critters are still alive and well. saw 4 heard a bunch more and just couldnt get a shot but thats bowhunting. Nancy looks great but keep her and Louie in your prayers as they recoup from the battle. We had a wonderful time with them and it was a hunt not soon forgotten. I just didnt know Rick could get that plane to do that ,,,,, what a trip....looking forward to our get together...

Work Weekend

When is it? I'm assumin' that it's the weekend before the hunt but want to make sure. I'll be able ta help fur the work weekend but probly won't be able ta make the hunt this year. Sorry I missed the LOTHAC meetin' but I had ta go ta Waverley fur my sister-in-laws funeral. She had been sufferin' from cancer fur 'bout the last 3 years. I'm Glad ta say that she died a believer. Judgin' by the smile on her face just before she passed, there's no doubt that she was goin' ta be with the Lord.

Ultrallight / glider accident

I am sure most of you have heard about the accident earlier this evening. Terry, the one who was killed, is a close friend of Doug's. Tom, the other pilot, is my daughter-in-law, Becky's uncle. Tom was seriously injured but all the preliminary tests are coming in good. It was only a couple weeks ago that Terry's dad passed away. Please be praying for them. Everyone is in pretty much a state of shock right now.

mike has been going through some tests to see why he is having numbness in his legs and now his arms. he is having a great sense of humor about the whole think and is reminding everyone that the last time he had a whole bunch of tests run and God was with him, his daughter's life and soul were saved just by watching his strength and trust in God. Let us pray that the same thing happens to someone else who just might be a witness to what is happening to Buckeye. In the meantime, please pray for him and for the doctors so that they might find a cause and treatment.

Elkhorn Family Days

Peggy at Elkhorn Lake has moved the family day to september 26, i know that is opening day, but just wanted to throw this out there to see if anyone was interested in helping with the archery section. lunch is provided and we have been given the keys to the three bedroom farmhouse on the grounds. we usually go up friday night, eat breakfast, and then leave in the afternoon. it makes an easier time of driving all the way up there and back. so far it is the waddells and the peters. let us know if anyone is interested. thanks, red

TH Speakers - just my opinion

I received my Tar Hollow brochure in the mail a few days ago. Since then Ive contemplated the cover page relaying our disappointment in not having speakers committed for this years event. Another sign of our weakened economy no doubt.

Its been great to have special speakers at Tar Hollow and weve had some great ones. Id even pay to hear Tennessee Tom (but dont tell him that)! I wont lay out a list of past speakers but theyve been skilled sportsmen whove enjoyed special blessings in their hunt for record animals, entertaining speakers, and experienced outdoorsmen with tales of woe and excitement. Most importantly they know Jesus Christ as their own personal savior and they were willing to share it on a personal level. It will be too bad we may not get to hear some of these folks weve enjoyed over the years.

Although over the last couple of years I have not been as active in our club as I would like to be. I still am in awe on the longevity and accomplishments God has lead us to and through, and still together we remain wholly committed to serving Him.

While we may feel a door is closing on getting speakers for this years event, you know as well as I do; God does not close one door without opening another. So for what its worth heres my opinion:

God has given us all talents and gifts. Look them up. Operative gifts like giving, leading, ministry, teaching can be found in Romans 12:6-8; the administrative gifts of evangelical and pastoral can be found in Ephesians 4:11; and the charismatic gifts of wisdom, discernment, knowledge, and faith reside in I Corinthians 12:1-14. There are more gifts but these are the ones I see in our club members.

Who has more keys than Doug? No one! But the number of keys Doug has pales in comparison to his many talents and skills. He always has the right tool at the right time for every job weve encountered. But more than talented, Doug is always willing to help anyone, anywhere, anytime. Dougs got hunting stories too. All earned at Tar Hollow over the years. And he can certainly teach from Gods word. Hes done it at shoots and hes done so at church. Maybe Doug can be a special speaker.

How many of us guys can sing solo? Yeah I know our wives might tell others we have a good voice but why is it they dont want us singing in the shower? I am in awe when Jerry, who sometimes looks uncomfortable, will stand before a mixed crowd of friends and strangers and lead the singing. At least Jerry can sing but I couldnt (wouldnt?) do it! Yet Jerry does it because he is faithful and willing to step out of his norm to promote Jesus Christ. You know hes got hunting stories -he knows Mike! But more importantly, Jerry knows Jesus. Maybe Jerry can be a special speaker.

Who says more with a quiet voice than a dozen men shouting? Yep. Lee. There are a lot of men who are quick to tell you what they believe and then confuse you with their behaviors. Lee could say nothing and in just a short while youd know where his heart is. Im sure he has few hunting stories, a few life experiences, advice on taking good photos, and maybe an insight on living life and serving the Lord. Lee might be a bit short in height but Id say most men would have to look up to him. Maybe Lee can be a special speaker.

Who has nine lives like a cat? Gotta be Mike. Hes been dragged behind a three wheeler, ran over by a bear, put a motorcycle under a car, drove his truck into a ditch at Tar Hollow, and who knows what else! Now heres a man with stories! But for all the conflict, controversy, and challenges our club has faced over the years Mike has been a leader. He is a strong leader because he is a faithful follower of Jesus Christ. Mike knows how to use peanut butter in ways most men can only imagine. Maybe Mike can be a special speaker.

Each of us men has lived a unique life each having faced our own unique challenges. But we share many attributes of each other as well struggled through personal trial and tribulation, faced sickness and death, or at times endured burdens so great wed have buckled under the weight had it not been for faith in Jesus and the grace of God. God has not led us down these paths for His amusement but rather for His glory.

Is this the year God has closed a door only to open one? I dont know. What I can tell you is we already have some very special speakers.
